Professional Schooling vs Home Schooling: A debate

Many people debate on what makes one the best school. A few people claim that home schooling trumps everything else. In this blog, let us look at a few main points in this debate of professional schooling vs home schooling.

Many people believe that nobody can do the job better than professionals, and this applies to education as well. Schools are quite proficient in the art of imparting education because they have the specialised resources for it, besides having the relevant experience. Experienced teachers know how to deal with different situations that may arise while dealing with students. Accordingly, they believe that parents might not be able to do as well with kids when it comes to home schooling.

The second major factor that makes the best school in Mumbai even better than the smartest parents is the fact that schools give exposure to kids and allow them to become social beings. They develop social intelligence and make important friendships for life. They get multiple role models and have an open mind. They also get a chance to learn about different cultures.

While online companies can develop the best resources to enable parents to educate the kids at home, nothing beats the kind of exposure that proper, decent schools can provide to students. Home schooling is good option for a) families which are located in remote parts of the world b) fill up the intervening periods when a family has to shift to a different location in the middle of the school year.
In the traditional scenario, home schooling is not a good option, irrespective of how smart and learned the parents might be. Some things are best left to professionals and parents should concentrate on giving the kids those things that schools are unable to provide: unconditional relationships, strong role models, and the idea of how family and relationships work.

Increased Use Of Technology Amongst Kids

Whether it is the CBSE, ICSE or CIE schools India houses, the common factor amongst all of them is the rampant usage of technology by both teachers and students in all aspects of teaching and learning. Most kids own at least one of the following:  iPads, iPhones or laptops.
We are slowing leaving the days when kids used their parents’ devices for a few hours a day behind us. Nowadays, kids have their own personal devices and are as addicted to these devices, if not more, than their elder counterparts.

Results? Kids these days spend rarely any time outside, playing physical games. There is a marked reduction in the nutrition and health levels. Far more kids need to wear glasses as compared to before due to the amount of time they spent glued to their screens.  Spending so much time on these gadgets doesn’t allow kids to develop offline friendships and they end up having social anxiety.
Of course, there are advantages to how tech savvy kids are. They are smarter, sharper and there are even kid coders! They are more exposed to the outside world through the use of Internet and often end up losing their innocence far earlier than they normally would.

For their  part, schools are trying to encourage physical sports amongst kids by making offscreen time compulsory. What we perceive to be a problem for working adults has also proven to be a problem amongst toddlers who are 5 year old. They are so addicted to their devices that detoxification is something that needs to be forced upon them.

Of course, there isn’t much even the best school or parents can do about this problem. Not exposing kids to these devices would mean keeping them from the things others kids their age would know intuitively. Not allowing an entire generation of kids to use electronic devices is not even feasible. The solution lies in developing a healthy balance amongst their online and offline time.

Learning Strategies For Nursery Kids

Whether it is a nursery school, or a high school, teachers and parents have considerably stepped up their game in the past decade or so. Nothing about the child’s future is left to chance anymore. A lot of research is being conducted to compare the productivity of the various learning methods, and hence the quality of education has significantly improved over time.
In this article, we are going to discuss the learning strategies for nursery kids.
Cooperative learning structures
Gone are the days when teachers used to work alone. These days, even kids play an important role in the classroom. Hence, the role of the teacher has become more like a ‘facilitator’. Their task is to guide students and ask insightful questions so that kids may explore the learning topics themselves.

Integrated Technology
What is the common element among the best international schools in all cities? Their use of technology! These days, kids are born in a world where technology already exists. They have seen iPads, computers and mobile phones by the time they are even a few weeks old. Given how addicted they are to these devices, it makes sense in making it an important part of their overall learning. Technology can be introduced at all stages of education – from learning, to revising to testing. And that is exactly what many schools have been doing!

Goal Setting
One method which has shown very good results is involving kids in a goal-setting process. This process doesn’t need to be very complex – it can be as simple as a two-way conversation with kids about their progress in specific areas. Organisers, charts, online calenders, etc can be used to track their progress so that they feel encourages with each step.

If you are trying to choose the best school for your kid, it is possible to talk to the admission aid in the school about the various learning process in place in the respective school.

The golden days of childhood must include your little one participating in extra-curricular activities such as drawing, painting, sport, sculpture, singing, dance, drama, stories and many more. Keep a check on what the school does and that will further help your child to build-up an all-round personality.
Schools should not be a boring place
