Why Are International Schools The Top Favourite Today?

When enrolling your child in school, one of the first decisions you need to make is about which curriculum you want your child to study. While the previous generations didn’t have much of a choice as the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and the local state boards were all there were, today, many schools in India also offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) and the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) curriculums. These international schools are seeing a rapid rise in popularity amongst Indian parents, with many even switching their children to these boards in the middle of their academic journeys. When it comes to the list of best international schools, India is slowly but surely making its mark.

International schools in Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru are the top choices for most parents these days. Here’s why:

-          Comprehensive Curriculum
While the ICSE does offer students the option to choose which subjects they want to study, curriculums like the IGCSE and IB take it a step futher – The IGCSE allows students to choose from upto 70 subjects! The IB is a great example of a grounded curriculum as in Grades 11 and 12, students have to study English, Maths and atleast one other language, but are free to choose the other subjects as well as the level of depth at which they want to study all these subjects, i.e. to a limited extent (Standard Level) or to a deeper extent (Higher Level)

-          Global and Out-Of-The Box Approach
International schools in Mumbai and other parts of the country teach young minds to be citizens of the world by taking a global approach to learning. Children are introduced to different cultures and are taught the importance of cultural sensitivity, a highly valued trait in today’s globalised world. Students are also encouraged to be both leaders and team players, as well as curious, inquisitive, passionate and empathetic. Teachers in international schools not just teach the students what’s in the curriculum, but also inspire them to think differently and approach things from different angles. This helps lay a strong foundation for your child’s success later on in life.

-          Mobility
If your job requires you to move countries frequently, then you should definitely enrol your child in an international school as this will ensure that they can seamlessly continue their education in a school providing the same curriculum in any other country in the world. This ensures that there are no breaks or hiccups in your child’s learning.

-          Good Preparation for Further Study and Work
An international curriculum is more effective at preparing a young student for the rigors of university as well as the early stages of their career. For example, the Extended Essay component of the IB helps students gain valuable skills in conducting research and presenting the same effectively.

If you’re looking for the best international schools, India has many well-reputed names in different cities across the country. International schools have proven themselves, and are definitely here to stay.

Inculcating Healthy Habits In Kids

All the best internationals schools are famous for trying to inculcate important healthy habits in kids so that they may enjoy a better life in the future. There is a lot of research and many trial & error methods applied to make sure that the basic important habits are developed in all kids.

The chief habit amongst these is eating right. Very often, parents end up giving way too the children’s demands and allow them to eat whatever pleases them. This ends up making them very rigid about their food habits and they rarely grow out of it after they are adults. More often than not, they consume a lot of junk food and end up with poor health. Hence, eating right is something both schools and parents can try to teach kids in coordination with one another.

Second important habit that many kids need to develop is one of exercising and spending time outdoors. A couple of decades ago, outdoor sports and games were the only recreation available to kids. However, with the advent of technology, kids are spending more and more time glued to various gadgets. Hence, they have poor eyesight and weaker motor skills. This also has an impact on their bodies. Because of the lack of exercise, kids end up not growing to the full extent of their potential.

Thirdly, kids need to develop important values. At the very least, the values that each child should have are teamwork, honesty, loyalty, brotherhood, etc. Research proves that kids develop these values much faster if they are fostered both at school and at their home. Given that most modern families are nuclear, there is a higher chance of kids learning these things at school amongst other kids their age.

This is another reason why every parent would want to send their kid to the best school in Mumbai.

International Schools Vs National Schools

“Which is the best school in Worli” my neighbour asked me a few months ago. This was a very subjective question which can’t be answered directly. There are a lot of factors which need to be considered, and maybe the principal amongst them is - whether to choose a national school or an international school?

For the longest time, international schools were deemed to be only for the really rich people. Middle-class people were satisfied with sending their kids to SSC or, if they could, ICSE or CBSE board schools. There was also a lot of stigma against international schools for being insanely expensive and alienating kids from Indian culture.

In truth, people couldn’t be farther from reality. International schools are carefully planned so as to give the best schooling experience for kids. It is true that they are a bit expensive, but for the most part, they are worth the expense because of the kind of education they provide. In fact, one should think of them in terms of an investment for your child’s future.

National schools solely focus on the intellectual element of the child’s growth. They have more difficult cirriculams, and the extent of competitiveness is very high, but at the end of the day, pushing kids doesn’t always work.

On the other hand, international schools are designed to encourage each child to develop into her own self or his own self. They allow them to explore themselves by designing syllabus which has grade systems.

National schools have a certain amount of rigidity when it comes to the learning processes. On the other hand, international schools really try to incorporate learnings from new research taking place around the world on a regular basis.

One might argue that not all parents can afford to send their kids to international schools, and while that might be correct in its own way, there is no reason why a national school shouldn’t try to reduce the rigidity and incorporate some important lessons from international schools.

There is absolutely no point in teaching kids by forcing them to learn certain things - be it formulae of Math or Science. At the cost of covering lesser topics and spending more time and resources, kids should be taught to learn rather than teaching them concepts.

The rat race in national schools is also something that should be done away with. We already live in a society where the level of  comparision is very high and the rat race only ads to the pressure on the innocent minds. Hence, a system which allows kids to become the best versions of themselves despite whatever weaknesses they have is much better for the general moral fabric of kids.

We are fortunate enough that we live in a country where there are ample options for parents in terms of which school to send their kid to. Even parents in a small city have best international schools at their disposal. We should all thank our stars and makre sure that we do our best to provide our children with the best that is possible!

Learning Strategies For Nursery Kids

Whether it is a nursery school, or a high school, teachers and parents have considerably stepped up their game in the past decade or so. Nothing about the child’s future is left to chance anymore. A lot of research is being conducted to compare the productivity of the various learning methods, and hence the quality of education has significantly improved over time.
In this article, we are going to discuss the learning strategies for nursery kids.
Cooperative learning structures
Gone are the days when teachers used to work alone. These days, even kids play an important role in the classroom. Hence, the role of the teacher has become more like a ‘facilitator’. Their task is to guide students and ask insightful questions so that kids may explore the learning topics themselves.

Integrated Technology
What is the common element among the best international schools in all cities? Their use of technology! These days, kids are born in a world where technology already exists. They have seen iPads, computers and mobile phones by the time they are even a few weeks old. Given how addicted they are to these devices, it makes sense in making it an important part of their overall learning. Technology can be introduced at all stages of education – from learning, to revising to testing. And that is exactly what many schools have been doing!

Goal Setting
One method which has shown very good results is involving kids in a goal-setting process. This process doesn’t need to be very complex – it can be as simple as a two-way conversation with kids about their progress in specific areas. Organisers, charts, online calenders, etc can be used to track their progress so that they feel encourages with each step.

If you are trying to choose the best school for your kid, it is possible to talk to the admission aid in the school about the various learning process in place in the respective school.

Rising Trend Of International Schools

If you make a list of international schools, you will find quite a few of them were started back in the early 1920s to ensure that expatriates and diplomats could get a “western” education for their children while working in far-flung countries. However, since then, these schools have been educating the kids of wealthy locals so that they may fit in western colleges in the future, and get jobs in MNCs.
With the increased awareness and the rise in disposable income among Indians, these schools have become extremely popular. They are no longer restricted to just metro cities now: even small towns have at least one international school!

The primary reason why parents love international schools is that English is taught as a native language in these schools. Students are taught the language with the use of phonetics, and are encouraged to read books and write book reviews. They have teachers are extremely well-versed in the language as well.

Parents always want the best for their kids, hence, it is no surprise that they take so many efforts to ensure that their kids get the best possible education. The efforts are not limited simply to the financial aspect. Many such schools also expect parents to be on a waitlist and sit for interviews to make sure that get the best education for their children.
The current generation is going to enter a global market. They need to be prepared to meet people from different cultures, and have an understanding of how the global market works.
While there are obviously some sub-par schools out there, the best international schools prepare the students for a bright future and expose them to all-round development so that they may achieve their full potential and make their parents proud.

5 Best Qualities Of A Good International School

The world today is filled with a lot of competitive geeks. Let’s talk about competition! We all would agree that the competition among students is unstoppable today. To match with this unstoppable competitiveness among students we first need to have revolutions in the education system and believe it or not we have got the right answer to this in the form of international schools. With so much competition around, we all understand the importance of education and we know that education is not just about academics; there is something way beyond it.

Having said that, it’s not necessary that all international schools you come across or know about are of international standards. Teaching staffs
Teaching staff is another important segment that one should investigate about before enrolling their child to a school. The methodology of teaching pattern in a school makes a big difference and gives the school aa higher standard. K-12 education system is being implemented in a lot of IB international schools and this is good for students. This is more of a self-explanatory model where students discover themselves in better ways. It is very important that international schools must appoint staffs who are capable enough to guide the students in the right way. This helps them to become better individuals in future.

Organisation
Each school follows different rules. It is very important that schools follow a set of rules and a strict discipline where you know your child is being educated at the right place. Report cards of the individual's progress in all areas must be sent to parents periodically, this helps parents keep a track of their child. There should be separate training methods for students who are below average, in this way you give the child special attention, and this helps the child to progress in life.

Extra facilities
It’s important for students to be surrounded by books, but this doesn’t mean that they are surrounded by just books. There are various other facilities that a student must benefit from, i.e. the school should provide all necessary amenities in the hostels and sports fields also. This helps the student to study and play simultaneously.

Location
Look out for an international school that is in your area as the location of the school matters the most. Thus, international schools offer the best education, sports and hostel facilities and is now being adapted worldwide.

Unlike earlier times, where international schools were not much in demand, today things have changed and an individual’s opinion towards international school has changed too. Earlier there was no much importance given to an international school, it was unheard. The focus was always on the two main types of schools, i.e. government schools and privately-owned schools. Basically, the function of these schools was straight they were either residential or were regular schools that functioned for 6-8 hours a day. These schools were considered among the top schools in India.
However, the world is evolving and so we also notice a third variety of school, the international school, which is different although a privately owned and managed school is different from other private schools. You may wonder what makes an international school different from privately-owned schools? There are many aspects that make the best international schools different from the private schools. When you want to enrol your child to the best international school, you will want to choose an international school that has the calibre to meet world class standards. Things you must consider while selecting the best international schools:

Campus
Make sure the school has a student friendly campus that gives the students all the advantages that they need. When the campus is huge you know that there is enough space for extra curricular activities and this will also keep your child interested in going to school.

Curriculum
You should check if the school's curriculum adheres to international standards. Implementation of IB program is a must. Only then you know that this school is different from the government or privately-owned schools.

Faculty
This is an important! It is very important that you check if the faculty at the school is internationally qualified. It is not enough if they know the subject well, they should also be able to deliver it to the students in a way that makes them develop interest in the subject. You can check with the students and parents of students who are studying in the school.
Thus, these are few characteristics of an international school that make it the ideal one.

List Of International Schools – Rising Rapidly

The sheer number of international schools is increasing by the day, thereby heating up the competition in the education market. They are nudging each other off through intense creativity with regards to curriculums and technology used. The best international schools are fighting it out to surface to the top. The better the school more the number of parents want to get their children into them. In earlier times parents used to enrol their children in whichever school was closer to their vicinity. They used to try to cut out travel time. This would also save on travel cost. There was a concept of municipal schools in earlier times. These schools were deemed as poor quality schools with respect to quality standards. These schools used to have the local language as the language of learning. They were called vernacular medium schools. All the subjects were taught in the local language. People who could not afford to get their children into good schools would enrol their children in these municipal schools. These schools were run by the local government. The teachers were not well trained. The classes had too many students and usually the classes were filled with cacophony.

Before the advent of international schools, in earlier times at rural areas schools were just grounds without a shed. There were no sheds to protect the children and teachers from rain or heat. But still teachers and social workers used to teach children. Sometimes they would not even get paid. Slowly the condition of schools started improving. There were sheds made, then, slowly there were single floor buildings made and so on. But child labour was highly prevalent and parents preferred sending their children to earn money and support their family rather than sending them to school. Then the government thought of a master plan. They started offering free meals to students who attended school. This initiative saw a rise in the number of rural children attending schools. The food actually lured a lot of school children as they were able to satiate their rumbling tummies. The government also imposed a law that child labour would be a punishable offence. Therein lot of small time organisations, hotels and tea vendors stopped employing children under the age of 15. This move made more students enter schools and study. Slowly even impoverished families started understanding the importance of education in building careers in the future. Illiterate parents started thinking that what they underwent, the hardship they undertook should not be undertaken by their children. They started getting their children into better schools.

These days, parents are shelling out a huge chunk of their salary for education of their children as school fees. Best international schools charge a bomb when it comes to school fees. But still parents are striving hard to get their children enrolled in these schools. The list of international schools taking interviews of children has been nullified. Government has imposed a rule that children should not be interviewed during admissions. So, international schools are now interviewing parents. The whole educational scenario has changed in India.
